Why has the trip been cancelled?

The terms and conditions of our booking have always been that France must not feature on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office's list of countries banned for 'all but essential travel'. France remains on that list, and is unlikely to be removed from it before 17th January (as it will still be part-locked-down at that time).

Couldn't we wait and see?

In addition to France featuring on the 'do not travel' list, it has also implemented measures to control the second wave of the pandemic. Its lockdown (or 'confinement') is being released in stages, the third of which will start on 20th January 2021. Until that time, all ski lifts, restaurants and bars remain closed. This is very unlikely to be brought forward. On this basis, the tour operator has cancelled our trip.

What about operating the trip later in the season?

To bring the trip together requires well-priced flights, hotel and transportation options, and availability on all of the same. This is why we have traditionally chosen the cheapest weeks of the ski season (outside of school holidays), and we take deposits to reserve our flights as early as June each year. The pandemic has throttled the number of flights the operators are running, with the result that finding 50 'cheap' seats on a flight to suit our itinerary is presently impossible.

What next? Receive a Full Refund

The tour operator has confirmed that as it is the party that has taken the decision to cancel our trip, those who have confirmed their trips and paid the balances are entitled to a full refund.

What date will the trip be in 2022?

When you claim your refund, you will be asked to choose from one of two dates. 16-20 Jan, or 23-26 Jan 2022. We'll aim to book the date that more people choose, subject to pricing and availability.

How will I receive my refund?

When you click on 'claim my refund' above or below, you will be guided to a secure portal to provide your bank details. You will receive your balance payment by bank transfer, and your deposit will be refunded to your payment card.

What happens if I didn't pay my booking balance?

Unfortunately, your booking was cancelled at the point at which you chose not to travel. As this was cancelled by you, rather than the tour operator, you are not entitled to any refund.

What about our charitable donations?

You are invited to let your donation for this year stand, or to make an exceptional donation to the Commercial Education Trust.

What if I have more than one HQR Ski invoice for this year?

If you have made more than one booking, please complete the refund process for each invoice. Alternatively, if you wish for your election to apply to more than one invoice, you can provide any further invoice numbers in the comments section on the refund portal.

How long will my refund take?

We are working with the tour operator to effect any refunds as quickly as possible. Inghams has cancelled ALL ski trips departing in January 2021, so has an awful lot of work to do. In addition, as bookings have been so poor, it is attempting to do so on a skeleton staff. Rest assured, we'll apply suitable pressure to get your money back as quickly as possible.
